MUMBAI: A 27-year-old married woman was brutally raped, starved and her menstrual blood was collected and sold for Rs 50,000. The brutal incident happened in Saundana village in Beed, Maharashtra. The woman's menstrual blood was sold for witchcraft rituals. The incident came to light on Women's Day.
Following the incident, a case was registered against seven people, including her husband and her in-laws based on the complaint of the woman's family. The woman's complaint states that she was starved for three days during her periods. The woman got married in 2019. According to the complaint, even though it was a love marriage, her husband and his family have been torturing the woman mentally and physically for various reasons since then. She says that her in-laws tied her up during monthly periods and collected the menstrual blood using cotton swabs and sold them to persons who practices witchcraft.
The police informed that the investigation into the incident is in progress. BJP leader and minister Chandrakant Patil demanded strict action against the accused. Shiv Sena's Manisha Kayande raised the issue in the Legislative Council demanding severe punishment for the accused.
