NAGPUR: A woman who crossed to Pakistan through the Line of Control (LoC) has been handed over to India. Sunita Jamgade (43) of Nagpur, escaped the Indian Army and reached Pakistan via Kargil. The woman's adventurous journey left her son in Kargil. There were reports that she had gone to Pakistan to meet a pastor she met online. However, Indian authorities have not confirmed this.

Pakistani officials handed over Sunita to the BSF on Saturday. The BSF then handed her over to the Amritsar police. A police team from Nagpur has left to take Sunita into custody. Deputy Commissioner Niketan Kadam said that three people, including two women policemen, have left for the mission. After taking the woman into custody, the Nagpur police will question her in detail. They will investigate whether she was involved in espionage or illegal activities. The Amritsar police has registered a zero FIR against them. The commissioner also clarified that the case will be transferred to the local station as soon as Sunita is brought back.

Sunita had tried to go to Pakistan twice before. However, the army sent her back at the Attari border. After this, she reached Pakistan via Kargil. It is reported that Sunita was questioned by the Pakistani authorities about why she had come to Pakistan and what her purpose was. There are reports that the woman who crossed the border was caught by the villagers and handed over to the Pakistani army.

Sunita left for Pakistan on May 14 after leaving her 13-year-old son in the border village of Handarman in Kargil. She told him that she would return immediately and asked him to stay there. When Sunita did not return, the villagers handed over the child to the police. The police then checked Sunita's phone details and other details and found that she had entered Pakistan. The child is presently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee. The investigating officers said that the child will be brought to Nagpur soon.
