16-year-old brutally thrashed in Kalpetta; attacked by classmates, police register case

KALPETTA: A 16-year-old was brutally beaten by a group of teenagers in Kalpetta, Wayanad. They surrounded the boy in an empty ground and attacked him after inviting him there over the phone. The Kalpetta police suo motu registered a case after the footage of the beating went viral on social media.

The brutal beating resulted from a minor argument between the students. The perpetrators were minors and friends who lived nearby. The 16-year-old was called to an empty ground near Kalpetta city.

The video footage that has come out is about seven minutes long. The footage shows the child being beaten all over the face, head and body with a large stick. The child was kicked in the face with a shoe-clad foot and forced to apologise by holding the attacker's feet when he fell to the ground. The footage was filmed by the group of attackers themselves. The child filming the footage can be heard saying that they can stop the beating now.

The accused were identified in an investigation led by the Kalpetta CI after the video went viral on social media. The police summoned to the station the assailants and the child who was beaten. The police said that since the accused are minors, strict action will be taken under the Juvenile Act.
