300 sovereigns gold, Rs one crore stolen from businessman’s house in Kannur

KANNUR: A major theft has been reported at a businessman’s house in Valapattanam. A major theft took place at the house of Ashraf of Valapattanam. The burglars decamped with 300 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash of Rs 1 crore. No one was at home at the time of the incident. Ashraf and his family were away on a trip.

K P Ashraf is a rice wholesale dealer. The cash and gold kept in the locker of their house near the Manna KSEB office were robbed off. It is reported that a three-member gang broke into the house and committed the theft. A dog squad has reached the spot and an investigation has started. The police are collecting evidence.

Ashraf left the house on November 19th to meet his friend in Madurai. The theft was known only when he returned the other day. Meantime, Ashraf's brother-in-law Jabir said that those who knew the exact location of the locker were behind the theft. The key of the cupboard where the gold and money were kept was locked and kept in another cupboard. He said that it was locked properly.

However, he said that it is not possible to say whether known people were behind the theft. It is reported that the thieves entered three rooms. The cupboard where the gold and jewelry were kept was locked and its key was kept in another cupboard and the key to that cupboard was in another room. The thieves entered only these rooms.
