Accused in Walayar case, arrested for trying to sexually abuse 60-year-old woman

PALAKKAD: A youth has been arrested for allegedly trying to sexually assault a 60-year-old woman. The 24-year-old youth identified as Arun Prasad was arrested by the Walayar police for barging into the house and attempting to rape her. He is the fifth accused in the Walayar case, in which two minor sisters of Attappallam in Walayar, were sexually assaulted and murdered in 2017.

Arun Prasad of Kallangad in Attappallam was arrested by a team led by Walayar inspector N S Rajeev. A case has been registered against him under charges like attempted rape, insulting womanhood and housebreaking.

Arun Prasad was a minor when the Walayar incident happened. The crime branch team that initially investigated the Walayar case arrested him last. The case was in the juvenile court as he was a minor. Arun, who was facing trial in the juvenile court, was out on bail. The incident related to the case happened last night.
