THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have recovered 66 sovereigns of gold and Rs 67,000 in cash from a bike theft accused. The gold ornaments and money were seized by Fort Police from Sreekanth, a native of Kalliyoor. He was arrested today from Killippalam in Thiruvananthapuram in connection with a bike theft case. The accused was trying to escape to another state with the stolen bike, but the police chased and overpowered him. Police said the recovered gold was stolen from houses within the limits of Kattakada and Maranalloor police stations.

Meanwhile, police are continuing the search for the accused involved in a housebreaking and theft case in Arayoor, Parassala. The burglars broke into the house of Sanalkumar in Arayoor and stole cash. They also attempted a theft at the nearby house of Nirmala at Parashuvakkal. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday. Around 4 am, the burglars broke open the back door of Sanalkumar’s house using iron rods and a hammer and entered the house. They stole around Rs 2,000 from a bag belonging to Sanalkumar’s wife. The cupboards, suitcase and table inside the house were found broken open, with household items scattered around.

Sanalkumar works in Aranmula, while his wife and children were staying at a nearby family house during the night. His mother is undergoing treatment at the Neyyattinkara Ayurveda Hospital. Police said the burglars carried out the theft after confirming that the house was unoccupied. At Nirmala’s house, the burglars tried to break open the door by hitting it with a stone. Hearing the noise, Nirmala woke up, following which the thieves fled under the cover of darkness. Parassala police reached the spot and conducted an inspection.
