Case of sexually abusing doctor on pretext of marriage; Rapper Vedan arrested

KOCHI: The Thrikkakara police arrested rapper Vedan alias Hirandas Murali (30) after grilling him in the case of raping a doctor on the promise of marriage. The police said that they have received digital evidence against Vedan. The doctor's complaint against Vedan was that he raped her five times on the promise of marriage. Since he has anticipatory bail, Vedan will be released after a medical examination.

The police had grilled Vedan for six hours yesterday. He was directed to appear again today. As per court's order, Vedan appeared at the Thrikkakara police station at 10 am yesterday. A questionnaire containing 100 questions was prepared. It is believed that Vedan has denied the allegations in the complaint.

Meantime, Vedan told media that he will not talk about the case which is under the consideration of the court and that he would cooperate with the investigation and would opine after the case is completely resolved. The complainant is a native of Kottayam. It is alleged that he sexually assaulted her five times in two years on the pretext of friendship and later promised to marry her and extorted Rs 31,000 in the name of releasing a song.

The complaint is that he later avoided her. A case has also been filed against Vedan on the complaint of a research student who said that he invited her to his flat and sexually assaulted her.
