KOCHI: A case has been registered against a Congress worker for posting derogatory remarks about the late former Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan on social media. The accused is Vrinda Vimmi, a local Congress worker from Eloor in Ernakulam. The offensive post was shared on Facebook.
The post, shared from the Facebook page Vrinda Vimmi, quickly spread across social media. A DYFI leader noticed the post and filed a complaint with the police. The post reportedly stated that "no Congress worker should forget how V. S. had insulted Oommen Chandy and his family."
In a previous incident, Yaseen Ahmad, the son of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hameed Vaniyambalam, was arrested by police for making a derogatory Facebook post against V. S. Achuthanandan. The arrest was based on a complaint filed by the DYFI. He was later released on bail.
Yesterday, a teacher who had posted offensive content against V. S. on social media was also taken into custody. The accused, Anoop (45), is a native of Nagaroor in Thiruvananthapuram. Police stated that further action would follow after recording his statement. Even though the post did not directly mention V. S. by name, it received backlash on social media, which led to his detention.
