KOCHI: Three persons have been arrested in a raid conducted by the police at a brothel in Perumbavoor. The arrested have been identified as Pareeth (69), a resident of Puthukkadan House, BOC Road, who runs a brothel, and his aides Imran Sekh, a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal, and Inamul Sekh, a resident of Bilaspur. The centre was run using young women from West Bengal.
Pareeth was running the brothel at a house in the BOC residential area. The locals were suspicious about this and later lodged a complaint. Earlier this month, three persons were arrested for running a brothel at Kalachantha in Perumbavoor itself. There are widespread complaints that the functioning of such centres is increasing in Perumbavoor.
The police said that strict action will be taken against those running brothels. Action will be taken against those who rent out buildings. The accused were nabbed by a team led by Inspector TM Sufi after receiving information about the brothel run by Pareeth on BOC Road. Such centres are targeted at places where migrant workers live in large numbers.
Perumbavoor in Ernakulam is home to a large number of migrant labourers. According to reports, women, including sex workers, are being brought in from West Bengal and other states under the guise of family members of labourers living here. However, the police are trying to eliminate such gangs before they become rampant.
