Four-month-old baby’s killer found to be 12-year-old relative, fear of losing love led to crime

KANNUR: More information emerged in the murder of a four-month-old baby found dead in a well Tuesday morning. The murder was committed by a 12-year-old girl, niece of the baby’s father. The girl has confessed to the crime. She will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. The incident is at Pappinisseri in Kannur.

The dead is Yaskika, daughter of Akkammal and Muthu of Tamil Nadu. The girl told police that she killed the baby after throwing her into the well. The baby was born to the couple after many years. The couple reached Kerala three years ago.

The girl and her sister stay with the couple as they have no parents. The girl feared of losing love after the birth of the baby. This led her to commit the murder.

The girl, who woke up on the pretext of going to the washroom, took the baby sleeping with her mother, and then threw her into the well. After throwing her into the well, she woke up Akkamal and Muthu and told them that the baby was missing.

The baby was not found even after searching the whole area. The body was found in the well in a search conducted later. Only the family members were at home at the time of the murder. From the beginning, the police suspected that someone in the house is behind the crime. The girl confessed to the crime during interrogation. The body has been shifted to Pariyaram Medical College for postmortem.

More clarification will be obtained only after getting the postmortem report. The police are taking statements from the baby’s parents. They are also examining whether there was any other reason for the murder.
