KOZHIKODE: Naushad, the prime accused in the murder of Hemachandran, a native of Poomala Chettimoola in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad, was taken into custody at Bengaluru Airport on Tuesday.
He was intercepted by the immigration department upon arrival at Bengaluru International Airport from Saudi Arabia. Upon being notified, an investigation team led by Medical College ACP A. Umesh left for Bengaluru.
Naushad had travelled abroad on a temporary visa two and a half months ago. Police discovered that his visa was due to expire yesterday and had issued a lookout notice the previous day.
Earlier, the case was being investigated by Medical College CI Jijish, but after his transfer, CI K.K. Ajesh took over the probe. So far, three people have been arrested in connection with the case. Police believe that they can obtain crucial information related to the murder by interrogating Naushad.
Naushad and his associates kidnapped and murdered Hemachandran on March 20, 2024, following a financial dispute. The accused then buried the body in the Cherambadi forest. Naushad is believed to be the mastermind behind the murder.
