THRISSUR: E C Anto, the CPM representative on the board revealed to the media that a loan was extended to the real estate dealer Anil Kumar by the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank with the knowledge of CPM's former district secretariat member, C K Chandran. The bank's former manager, Biju Karim and accountant, CK Jills are the primary accomplices in the fraud. Anto mentioned that Rebco agents such as Bijoy and Kiran are among their nominees.
There is speculation that leaders like former minister A C Moideen and former MP P K Biju may be involved. Anil Kumar disclosed recently that it was Anto who introduced him to Karuvannur Bank. A man named Rajeev informed him about Anil Kumar. Anto shared that he met Anil Kumar one day at the bank and informed him that he could secure a loan if the required documents were in order.
In addition to CK Chandran, a sub-committee consisting of N B Raju, Peethambaran Master, the bank president and the secretary managed day-to-day operations. Only small loan applications typically around 10,000 were routed through the governing body. Anto stated that the larger loans were recorded in the minutes and approved accordingly.
