KOZHIKODE: A significant cache of illegally stored liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders was intercepted during a targeted enforcement operation in Perumanna Grama Panchayat. Following a strategic tip-off, a team led by District Supply Officer (DSO) R. Boban conducted a rigorous inspection of a private vacant plot at Edacherithazham, located within the Vallikkunnu-Anchumavu-Ilamanapadam sector.
The inspection revealed 64 cylinders—comprising 60 empty units and four filled units—stored in a disorganised and hazardous manner. Authorities noted that the storage failed to meet even the most basic safety requirements, posing a substantial risk to the local residential community. To ensure public safety, the seized items were immediately relocated to a secure, authorised facility.
DSO R. Boban confirmed that the department will initiate stringent legal proceedings against the individuals responsible for this breach of safety regulations. He reiterated that the storage of volatile materials in residential areas without the requisite permits is a grave violation of the law. The enforcement team also included Kozhikode Taluk Supply Officer Abdul Gafoor, Koyilandy Rationing Inspector Sreenivasan, and Taluk Rationing Inspectors Baiju, Bavitha, and Shaiba. An investigation into the origin of the cylinders and the property owner’s involvement is currently underway.
