Lady officers on night duty attacked; female engineer lifted off floor; phone snatched

KOLLAM: Youths drove a jeep into the women officials who were on duty at night supervising the road tarring. One man in the group grabbed a female engineer and lifted her up. The Sasthamcotta police have registered a case under non-bailable section in the incident.

The incident took place on the Sasthamcotta-Anjilimoodu main road at 10 pm on Saturday. The attack took place on a seven-member women's team consisting of the KRFB Assistant Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineers and Supervisors, who are supervising the tarring of the Vettamukku-Thamarakulam KIIFB project. The youths drove a jeep towards the tarring area, bypassing the vehicle control systems. When the women ran in fear, a youth came out and created a stir. He grabbed the Assistant Executive Engineer, who was trying to film the visuals on his mobile phone and lifted her up. He also snatched her phone. When the women officials called for help, the police arrived and asked them to file a complaint at the station if they had any. The engineers who reached the Sasthamcotta police station at 10:30 pm filed a complaint.

Some of the attackers had reached the station premises. The officers who returned to the road completed the tarring and left in the morning. However, it is alleged that the police did not even pay a second visit to the place during this time.
