PAYYANNUR: Yet another major drug bust has been reported in Kannur district. Payyannur police have arrested a three-member gang transporting drugs in a car. The accused have been identified as Nadir Noorudheen (41), his wife Aina (33), and Shanid (36), all natives of Chalad. Police seized drugs, including MDMA and hashish oil, from them.

The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Friday near the Kurumba temple at Kandoth, Vellur in Payyannur. Acting on a tip-off about drug trafficking, police were conducting inspections on the national highway. When signalled to stop, the car sped away, prompting a police chase. The vehicle was finally intercepted in a dramatic manner on the road near Edat Kannangattu Bhagavathi Temple, and the suspects were taken into custody.

The drugs were found hidden inside the car. Police recovered 41 grams of MDMA and 241 grams of hashish oil. The operation was carried out by a team led by Payyannur SI P V Anushree, along with the anti-narcotics squad DANSAF.
