Major drug seizure in Alappuzha; two from Bengal held with 27 kilos of ganja

ALAPPUZHA: There was a major ganja seizure in Cherthala. Two people were arrested with 27 kg of cannabis from the premises of the railway station. The excise team arrested Ajurul Mulla (35) and Simul S K (18), natives of West Bengal.


Two migrants were arrested in Perumbavoor with eight kg of cannabis carrying in a luxury vehicle. Manirul Mandal (27) and Sonjur Mandal (25) of Madhubona, Murshidabad, West Bengal, were arrested by the special investigation team of Perumbavoor ASP and Kodanad Police. They were arrested while they were waiting to hand over the ganja at the Pappanpadi area of Koovappady.


They came from Odisha with ganja in Tata Harrier car. The ganja was smuggled by removing the number plate of the car registered in West Bengal and fittd it with a Kerala registration number. They had been under police surveillance for some time following a tip-off. The ganja, which was bought from Odisha for Rs 2,000, was sold here for Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.


The investigation team included Perumbavoor ASP Hardik Meena, inspector G P Manuraj, sub inspector Aji P Nair, ASIs P A Abdul Manaf, Sunil Kumar, senior CPOs Varghese T Venat, T A Afzal, Benny Isaac, M R Ranjith, Aby Mathew, Nithin, Nizamuddin and Arun.
