
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court has awarded life imprisonment to the man accused of killing his wife by pouring kerosene on her and setting her on fire. Thiruvananthapuram Seventh Class Additional Sessions Court Judge V Anas sentenced the accused Ashok (60). The incident related to the case happened on February 26, 2024. Ashokan set Leela (45), a resident of Laksham Veedu Colony, Ambalathumvila, Muthana, on fire.
Ashokan poured kerosene on Leela's body while she was sleeping in the bedroom of the house. Her children had seen Ashokan pouring kerosene on Leela's body. Her son Anil, who tried to save Leela when she ran out screaming, also sustained burn injuries.
Ashokan was on rest after suffering a stroke in 2023. Ashokan believed that Leela would leave him and suspected her of having an extramarital affair. The two had a fight when Leela came late after offering Attukal Pongala.
The Ayiroor police completed the investigation and in the chargesheet filed in the case, 27 witnesses, including their children Anil, Aswathy, Anju and Anitha, were examined. 39 documents were produced. Public Prosecutor advocate K Veni appeared for the prosecution.
