Man held for trying to set ablaze wife and daughter under influence of alcohol 

ADIMALI: A man accused of trying to kill his wife and daughter by pouring petrol on them under the influence of alcohol, has been arrested. The Vellathooval police arrested Uppukandam Sabu (56) of Panikkankudi Kurishingal Padi Kuzhikat. His wife Lissy (50) and daughter Ashley (21) who suffered serious burns are undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Sunday.

Lissy and her daughter, whose bodies were on fire, ran out of the house to save their lives. The locals who came after hearing them screaming, rushed the two to the hospital. Sabu, who is an accused in many abkari cases, has served a year in jail. His son had committed suicide long ago. The accused produced in the court has been remanded. He was arrested by a team led by sub inspector Saji N Paul.
