THRISSUR: The court sentenced a 46-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering an unmarried woman after promising to marry her. He also stole her ornaments and buried the body. The accused is Noorudeen alias Nooru (46), son of Abdul Rahman of Punnayoor Village and husband of two women and father of three children. He killed Raziya (26), daughter of Aboobacker of Punnayoor Kollamparambu, after having sex with her.
Thrissur district court judge P N Vinod awarded life imprisonment to the accused in the case and three years rigorous imprisonment for stealing her ornaments. A fine of Rs one lakh has also been imposed. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo one more year in prison and also ordered to hand over her ornaments to her family.
The incident happened on January 29 in 2013. On the pretext of marriage, he lured her and brought her to his brother Musthafa’s house and engaged in sex in a shed behind the house. When he asked her to go home, she refused to go and started crying. He then choked her to death and buried the body in a nearby place. A team led by officials V K Raju and Babu K Thomas probed the case and filed the charge sheet.
