THRISSUR: A housewife hailing from Mullassery in Thrissur has revealed that she had sold her kidney due to financial issues at her home. Speaking to the media, she said that she sold the kidney for Rs 10 lakhs. The housewife's revelation comes at a time when reports are claiming that human trafficking took place in Kerala for organ trade. It is said that seven persons, including five women, had sold their organs in the last two years in Mullassery alone.

Speaking to the media, the housewife mentioned the name of Vishwanathan aka 'Kidney Vishwan' who functions as a middleman in the organ trade. She said that she donated her kidney on June 27.

Apart from Vishwanathan, it is alleged that another person named Baby Manoharan also functions as a middleman in the organ trade. Mullassery former panchayat president Babu alleged that Guruvayur ACP ended the investigation saying that there was no strong information against them. Babu also alleged that the organ trafficking mafia is taking advantage of the poverty of the people in the area.

Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the Nedumbassery organ trafficking case. A 10-member team led by Ernakulam Rural SP is investigating the case. Thrissur native Sabith Nassar, the accused in the case, had testified that his connection with the organ mafia was from Hyderabad.

The police are searching for Shemeer of Palakkad, victimized by Sabith. It has been decided to find Shemeer and take further action on the complaint. Sabith had admitted to the police that most of the organ traffickers were youths from Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Meanwhile, central agencies have also started investigating the links of the accused with international organ mafia groups.
