KOCHI: The accused told police that his niece, the four-and-a half-year-old girl murdered, had told her mother about the sexual harassment. A media reported that the child’s mother slapped him when she knew about the abuse. The accused believed that the woman had not told anyone about the abuse.
However, it is yet to be clarified whether the woman had informed anyone about the incident. The child was abused even on the previous day of her death. They stay in nearby houses. Since they are close relatives, no one suspected.
It is reported that he had been abusing the child for the past one and a half years. The mother's statement turned crucial in the case. Soon after the postmortem, the doctor had informed the Rural SP about the abuse. He immediately went to Chengamanad police station and questioned the child's mother.
The woman had said that 'the child was fond of one person’. After investigating that in detail, the police got some clarity on the matter. Then, in the first phase, three were grilled and later released two of them.
The third person initially did not confess to the crime. After questioned him with evidence, the accused said that he had committed a mistake. The police are investigating whether there is any connection between the rape and the child's murder.
