VELLAMUNDA: Police have arrested a couple in connection with the brutal murder of a migrant worker in Vellamunda, Wayanad. The accused are Muhammad Arif and his wife Sainaba, both natives of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The victim is Mukhim Ahmad, also from Saharanpur.

According to the police, Muhammad Arif murdered Mukhim Ahmad due to his suspicions that Mukhim was having an affair with his wife. After bringing Mukhim to his quarters in Velliladi, Arif strangled him to death with a rope. The body was then dismembered and packed into two bags, which were later dumped after being transported in an auto-rickshaw. Police investigations revealed that Arif's wife assisted in the crime. Arif and Sainaba cleaned up the bloodstains in the quarters after committing the murder.

The couple used a newly purchased knife to cut the body into pieces and packed it into two bags. They then took the bags to the area near a stream close to a bridge in Moolithodu in an autorickshaw and abandoned them there under the pretence of disposing of waste. It was the auto-rickshaw driver who alerted the police after becoming suspicious about Arif's actions. Upon inspection, the police discovered the dismembered body inside the bags. One bag was found near the bank of the stream under the bridge, while the other was by the roadside. The case was investigated by District Crime Branch DySP Sureshkumar.
