One-year-old girl killed by mother; police questioning Aswathy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A mother has confessed to killing her one-year-old daughter in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident took place at Kanichode in Vamanapuram. The mother, Aswathy Subhash, admitted during police questioning that she was responsible for the child’s death.

Police suspect that Aswathy may be facing mental health issues. The victim is one-year-old Pavithra, the daughter of Aswathy and Subhash.

The child’s grandmother found the girl lying motionless in the bedroom after returning home from work under the rural employment scheme. The family then immediately rushed the child to a private hospital in Karette.

Hospital authorities said the child was brought in dead. Police had earlier stated that there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and suspected it to be a case of murder.

The accused is being questioned in detail to find out the reason behind the killing. Police are also trying to determine whether there were any family disputes or other issues that may have led to the incident.
