KOTTAYAM: Kottayam Additional Sessions Court (II) Judge J Nassar found a couple guilty of killing the wife's lover, cutting the dead body into pieces and dumping it in multiple locations. The sentence will be pronounced later. The accused are Muttambalam native AR Vinodkumar (Kammal Vinod, 46) and his wife NS Kunjumol (44), who were staying in a rented house in Peedikappadi, Meenadom. The deceased was Santhosh Philip (34) of Malakunnam, Payyappady.
The murder took place on the night of August 23, 2017. Later, on August 27, the headless body was found dumped in two sacks near the Manganam Mandiram culvert in Kottayam. The head was found near the nearby Thuruthel bridge on the 28th after the accused were arrested. The police have stated in the charge sheet that Vinod's wife Kunjumol was in a relationship with the deceased Santhosh and that Vinod's enmity was the reason for the murder.
Vinod killed Santhosh who had come home after receiving a call from Kunjumol's phone. Vinod and Kunjumol then dumped the body parts in various places in an autorickshaw.
The incident began when Kammal Vinod was facing trial for kicking his father to death. Santosh was also in jail when Vinod Kumar went to jail for killing his father. Vinod had told Santosh, who had been released, to take care of his wife, Kunjumol. Santosh and Kunjumol started an extramarital affair following this. Vinod decided to kill Santosh after knowing about this. For this, he forced and threatened his wife and the accused in the case, Kunjumol, to call Santosh to the rented house in Meenadam, saying that her husband was not at home and that he should come at night.
While Santosh was sitting on a chair in the sit-out at night, Vinod, who came from behind, hit him on the head with an iron rod and killed him. The police charge sheet also states that the accused committed this brutal act because Santosh had sex with his wife Kunjumol. Santosh, who was killed, is accused in the case of murdering a woman by pouring acid on her.
In the case where there were no witnesses, the accused were found guilty based on circumstantial evidence and scientific evidence. Advocate Cyril Thomas Parappuram, Advocate Dhanush Babu, and Advocate Siddhartha S appeared for the prosecution. Sasthamangalam Ajithkumar appeared for the defence.
