Sexually assaulted and impregnated 12-year-old girl; 72-year-old man arrested in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: A 72-year-old man has been arrested for sexually assaulting and impregnating a 12-year-old girl. The incident took place in Thamarassery. The accused is the girl’s neighbour. The girl was found to be pregnant when she was taken to the hospital with abdominal pain.

Based on the statement given by the girl, the 72-year-old man was taken into custody and subjected to a DNA test. His arrest was formally recorded after the DNA results came back positive.

The girl was admitted to the hospital on May 15. Tests revealed that she was five months pregnant. She was then shifted to the medical college hospital. The police registered a case based on information provided by the doctors there.

The girl used to go to play in a vacant plot near the accused’s house and would occasionally go to his house to drink water. It was during these times that the assaults occurred. Reports indicate that he abused her multiple times. As the accused’s wife worked as a daily wage labourer, no one would be home during the day. His children are married and live separately.
