KOCHI: The Kochi City Police have registered a case against a woman who changed her mind after promising to marry a transgender person she met on social media and persuaded him to undergo gender reassignment surgery. The action is based on a complaint by a transgender woman who changed her gender to a man after believing the words of the woman who approached her on the pretext of love. The complaint also states that with the help of her sister and father, the woman embezzled Rs 20 lakh and escaped with 11 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
A transgender from Melur, Thrissur, living in Ernakulam, changed into a man after believing the words of a woman from Edapzhanji, Thiruvananthapuram. The 22-year-old woman and the 26-year-old transgender became friends through Instagram in April 2024. As the two became closer, the woman promised the transgender that she would marry her if she changed into a man. After that, she underwent a sex change surgery at a cost of lakhs.
The police informed that the woman had been visiting the transgender's apartment in Ernakulam from time to time following the surgery. The transgender handed over around Rs 9 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for maintenance believing in the assurance that the woman's paternal aunt's family house in Thiruvananthapuram would be registered in the transgender's name after marriage. The woman received Rs 20 lakh, including Rs 2,30,000 as a monthly payment for the woman's sister's chit fund payment. The woman, before leaving the apartment for the last time, also took 11 sovereigns of gold ornaments with her. The Ernakulam North police have named the woman's sister and father as accused in the case.
