Stopped Shahul Hameed from drinking foreign liquor in toddy shop: Employee beaten to death

PALAKKAD: A man beat up a shop employee to death for not allowing him to consume liquor brought from outside at a toddy shop. N Ramesh (50), son of Narayanan, a native of Mundoor, Palakkad, died after being beaten on the road near the toddy shop near Kozhinjampara Beverage. Police have arrested M. Shahul Hameed (38), a native of Challapatha, Kozhinjampara in the incident.

Ramesh is a temporary worker at the toddy shop. The incident took place on Saturday night. Ramesh had stopped Shahul Hameed from entering the shop with foreign liquor for drinking it there. Following this, an argument broke out between the two and Shahul Hameed left from there. Shahul Hameed followed Ramesh after he left the toddy shop at night. The police said that he had stopped Ramesh on the roadside and beaten him up.

The postmortem conducted after the Kozhinjampara police inquest revealed that Ramesh's death was due to assault. Shahul Hameed was then taken into custody by the police. The police announced that the accused would be produced in court.
