THRISSUR: A street vendor was beaten brutally for questioning defecation on the pavement of the Guruvayur Temple. Rajendran (66) of Thiruvathra in Chavakkad is running a shop selling jasmine flowers and pooja items on Manchira Road in Vadakke Nada for nearly seven years. The incident happened at 3 am on December 12. The miscreants attacked him with an iron pipe. He sustained a fracture on his left hand. His shop was also vandalised.

Rajendran questioned the people living on the streets for defecating on the pavement. The next day they had polluted Rajendran's shop and the surroundings. Rajendran had filed a complaint with the police along with the visuals of this. Rajendran said the reason for the attack was the enmity due to this. The police have also collected the CCTV footage of the incident.

Meantime, the complaint also alleged that the police initially refused to file a case. The police cited election duty for it. However, the police summoned Rajendran and recorded his statement only after the visuals of the attack went viral. There are also widespread complaints that people living on the streets near the temple were attacking with deadly weapons.
