Woman and son thrown out of house by in-laws in Kollam; slept in sit-out with child, complains of dowry harassment

KOLLAM: A complaint has been lodged for throwing a woman and her son out of the house by her in-laws. Athulya of Kottiyam and her son were thrown out of the house. The in-laws locked the gate when she went to pick her son from school. The mother and son slept outside the whole night.

‘I went to pick my son last evening. Both gates were found locked when I returned with my son. I immediately informed the Kottiyam police station. Also called the Kollam commissioner. Though I called the women’s cell and children’s welfare, did not get any justice from them.

Sat in front of the gate till 11.30 pm. Then with the help of the locals jumped the wall and sat in the sit-out. When I switched on the light, my mother-in-law immediately switched off the main switch. I sat in the dark.

I was harassed in the name of dowry from the time I got married. They harass me constantly for a car. My sister-in-law too faced the same situation. She is now staying in her house. This house was built with my gold and cash. During the construction of this house, they said they would write the house for us when my son starts going to school. However, when we came to live in this house, they turned against us. We came to know that this house and property is registered in someone else’ name,’ she said while talking to a private channel.
