KOLLAM: A woman and her daughter were arrested for attacking police officers during a search for drugs. The Anchal police arrested Sansa (49) and her daughter Najuma (19) of Karukone at Anchal in Kollam. Amidst the arrest, the accused tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. The two were later admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
DANSAF and a team including women police had arrived at the house of Shaheeda of Karukone, who was earlier jailed in several ganja cases, for a search the other day. Meanwhile, the case is that Shaheeda's daughter Sansa and granddaughter Najuma had stopped and assaulted the police. DANSAF sub inspector Balaji, civil police officer Adarsh and a woman police officer Nisha were attacked.
The accused escaped when more police reached the spot. In the search conducted in their house, the police recovered 46 grams of ganja and Rs 1,64,855. Police said Sansa and Najuma closed the door of the house and consumed poison when they saw the police team. The police forcibly entered the house and took them into custody. Both were first admitted to Punalur Taluk Hospital and later to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
