KOCHI: The mother of the four-year-old girl, who was thrown into the river in Aluva, was not aware that her daughter was a victim of brutal rape. Reports said the woman had told police that she was disturbed by her husband's family's excessive interest in the child.

She felt that her husband's family was trying to isolate her from the child. She got information that her husband was planning to remarry. She was worried about how the child would live if she was isolated. The woman said that she dreamt her daughter being under the control of her stepmother and that she killed her because she was worried about her future.

The child was sexually abused by her paternal uncle. The child was being raped for the past one year. Her 35-year-old uncle was remanded yesterday. He had confessed to the crime. The police will seek his custody in the court today.

The child was raped the day before her death. The forensic surgeon at Kalamassery Medical College, who conducted the postmortem, informed the police that the child had injuries on her private parts and internal bleeding.

The accused was taken into custody after questioning three close relatives of her father including him. When his phone was checked, it became clear that he was a sexual pervert.

Her father was with her grandfather undergoing treatment in Kolencherry Hospital. The child slept with her paternal uncle (the accused) that day. He was then taken into custody and confessed to the crime after lengthy interrogation.
