Woman uses pepper spray in robbery bid, attempts suicide when plan went awry

KOZHIKODE: A woman has been taken into custody for a theft attempt in a jewelry shop in Pantheerankavu. The police have taken the woman identified as Soudhabhi of Poovattuparambu into custody. The incident happened at the Souparnika Jewelry in the city Thursday morning at 10 am. The salesman showed her the ornaments as per her request. In the meanwhile, a dispute broke out between the two and the owner had to intervene.

She used pepper spray amidst the dispute. When the owner created a commotion, the locals rushed and caught the woman. She immediately doused petrol which she had in her hand and tried to set her ablaze. She told locals that she committed the act due to financial crisis. On being informed, the police arrived and took her into custody.
