THRISSUR: BJP’s Operation Thamara in Mattathur panchayat of the district. All the Congress members who won the election resigned from the party and joined hands with the BJP to form a front and captured the panchayat administration. Independent member Tesi Jose Kallarakkal is the panchayat president. Tesi Jose received the votes of eight people who resigned from the Congress, two independents who contested as rebels, and four BJP members. LDF has 10 members.
Mattathur was a panchayat with a strong base for the Congress. However, for a long time, there was no bonding between the DCC leadership and the local leadership in Mattathur. This was revealed in the local elections. All eight candidates fielded by the local leadership against the candidates announced by the DCC leadership won. Two party rebels won. Since the DCC has no control over the local leadership, the Congress was unable to take action against them.
The dramatic moves were just before the president election this morning. All eight Congress members who won resigned from the party and joined hands with the BJP to form a new front and come to power.
The letter pointed that the resignations were in protest against the injustice shown by the leadership towards the mandalam congress committee and ordinary party workers. Minimol, Sreeja, Suma Antony, Akshay Santhosh, Printo Palliparamban, Siji Rajesh, Sibi Paulose and Noorjahan Nawaz have resigned.
Since all the Congress members have resigned, the party did not issue a whip. However, the BJP leadership has not yet responded to the incident.
