THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The health department is trying to save their face after the death of the baby during caesarean at the Nedumangad District Hospital. The accused Dr Bindu Sundar was sent on forced leave after the baby's relatives staged protests over the incident. The baby born to Niranjana of Palode died soon after the surgery. The director of the health department said complaints have been received against Dr Bindu earlier also. The director said that she will not be taken back to the district hospital. A team from the medical college will reach the district hospital today to investigate the incident.

Relatives said the baby's death was due to the delay in performing the surgery. They also alleged that Dr Bindu left the place without giving an explanation for the baby's death. The relatives are of the stand that the baby's body will not be accepted until action is taken against her.

Niranjana was admitted to the hospital the other day. When she came for the routine check-up, she was advised to be admitted for delivery. She was admitted to the labour room Tuesday morning at 4 am. The baby was taken out through caesarean at 2 pm, but the baby died soon after that. Following this, the relatives protested in front of the hospital. RDO Jayakumar assured that the incident would be investigated in detail. He had also said action would be taken against the doctor.
