THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Valsala Prasanna Kumar, former Congress Paravur Municipal Chairperson, AICC member and former KPCC General Secretary, has joined the BJP. Valsala was inducted into the BJP by party state president Rajeev Chandrashekar at a function held at their office in Thiruvananthapuram Tuesday afternoon.
After joining the party, she said the welfare schemes and women empowerment policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government attracted her to the BJP. Senior leaders including BJP state general secretary advocate S Suresh and NDA vice chairman A N Radhakrishnan attended the function. Valsala told media that if given a seat to contest from Paravur in the upcoming elections, she would contest against opposition leader V D Satheesan. She also said that she has faith in God and is therefore hopeful of victory.
'In 2010, my party forced me to contest from Pallamthuruth ward of Paravur Municipality. I got a good majority and became the chairperson. In 2015, when the constituency was shifted to the general category, I contested then also. Promised me the chairperson’s post, but some deliberately tried to defeat me. The goal of those who tried to defeat me failed. V D Satheesan then gave the chairperson’s post to his favourite person. After realizing this deception, stayed away from the public field.
I have not attended any Congress party’s function for the last six years. The leaders came to my house and invited me to join the BJP. I accepted that invitation happily. Joining BJP has given me energy that I haven't had in a long time and now will be active in the public,' said Valsala.
