PALAKKAD: Senior CPM leader Paloli Mohammed Kutty rejected party leaders A K Balan and Saji Cherian for their remarks against the Muslim League. While responding to the media, he said the statements of the two cannot be fully accepted and what they said is not true.
Paloli asked whether the Muslim League has fielded non-Muslims in any general seat. He also asked whether the League is winning only with Muslim votes. The AP faction has unity with the UDF on some issues. However, he pointed that the LDF has the support of a faction of the EK faction. Paloli reminded that it should not be overlooked that while one faction moves closer to the UDF, the other faction moves closer to the LDF.
The correction was for the communal remarks of Minister Saji Cherian and A K Balan. Saji Cherian's controversial remark was that if the names of those who won in the Malappuram district panchayat are examined, communal polarization will be clear. He had also said that Kerala should not be like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Saji Cherian later retracted this statement after the controversy.
Balan warned that if the UDF comes to power, the home department would be run by Jamaat-e-Islami and this would lead to Marad-style riots. Balan had alleged that the Muslim League and the RSS were helping in this.
