11-year-old boy dies after drowning while trying to save brother in Malappuram

WANDOOR: In a tragic incident, an 11-year-old boy died after drowning while trying to save his brother and friend who entered a river for a bath. The deceased has been identified as Ayman Gafur, son of Abdul Gafur, a native of Panampoyil, Koorad in Malappuram district. The children had gone to the river along with family members.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening. The boy died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Ayman was a Class 4 student and school leader at GLP School, Panampoyil Pazhedam, Koorad. He was known for his excellence in academics and extracurricular activities. He had won first prize in the Malayalam speech competition at the sub-district arts festival. The body will be kept for public viewing at the school today and later buried at the Koorad Juma Masjid. His father, Abdul Gafur, who was abroad, has returned home after being informed about the incident.
