18-year-old attacked during temple festival in Kollam succumbs to injuries

KOLLAM: An 18-year-old boy, who was undergoing treatment after attacked in a clash that broke out during a temple festival, succumbed to his injuries. The dead is Harikrishnan of Kunnathur. He was declared brain dead while undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The incident happened on Sunday at the Marutthadi temple in Kollam.

The visuals of the attack had emerged. A gang brutally attacked Harikrishnan, his brother Jayakrishnan and relative Rajesh in a clash that broke out during the temple festival. The three were beaten with a piece of wood. The visuals show the boy brutally beaten and falling unconscious after being hit on the head.


The Sakthikulangara police have registered a case against six in the incident. The police have arrested two of them. Sunil Kumar (58) of Marottimoottil, Maruthadi, Kannimelcheri, Kollam, and Ratheesh (51) of Santhosh Nivas in Maruthadi were the two arrested. The police said four more are yet to be arrested and the investigation is progressing. The arrested have been remanded. A special team has been assigned to investigate the case.
