18-year-old held for brutally assaulting 16-year-old boy

KALPETTA: One more has been arrested for brutally assaulting a 16-year-old boy and capturing visuals of the attack that happened at Kalpetta in Wayanad. An 18-year-old boy involved in the crime has been taken into custody. Two minors were earlier arrested in the case. The arrested is Nafil of Kalpetta. A total of three were arrested.

After the visuals emerged, Nafil had sought treatment at the medical college hospital in Meppadi. He was arrested from here. The arrested minors were produced before the juvenile justice board. They were handed over to the child welfare committee for matters including counseling. The 16-year-old was attacked for calling their nicknames and for using bad words.

On Wednesday evening, around 3 pm, the students called the boy over the phone and beat him in a group, holding his legs and forcing him to apologize. The incident happened at an empty ground in Kalpetta. All these visuals were in the video that emerged. The boy was beaten with a stick, including on his face and head. The boy is also seen screaming and apologizing after being beaten. The beating continued even after he held their legs. The Kalpetta police registered a case after receiving a complaint of five-minute-long scenes of the attack.
