THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The search for a 13-year-old girl who went missing from Kazhakootam 28 hours ago continues with no trace of her found. Despite concluding that the child might be in Kanyakumari, extensive searches of the railway station, the beach and other areas yielded no information. CCTV footage from the station also did not show any sign of the child.
Authorities, including the police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), are now focusing on searching trains for any signs of the child, who is suspected to have boarded a train from Kanyakumari to another destination. The police are also conducting checks at Thampanoor railway station, as well as on buses and trains, in anticipation that she may return to Thiruvananthapuram.
A joint search effort involving Kerala Police and Tamil Nadu Police is underway in areas like Kanyakumari and Nagercoil. The missing girl, Thasmin Begum, daughter of Anwar Hussain, was reported missing after a quarrel with her siblings and was reportedly upset due to her mother’s scolding.
Amidst the family's distress, there have been unfounded allegations circulating on social media suggesting that the child was beaten and left the house, with some claims of involvement by her stepmother. The family has refuted these allegations, stating that the mother did not beat the child and was not a stepmother but had merely scolded the children after a fight.
There is also a possibility that the child may have traveled to Chennai, possibly via Tirunelveli from Kanyakumari. A special team has been formed to locate her before she reaches Chennai. The RPF and Tamil Nadu Railway Police are conducting thorough searches on trains bound for Chennai, particularly focusing on local compartments, as the girl's brother lives in Chennai.
