THRISSUR: Family courts in the state are swelling with cases due to marital disputes. 39,067 couples in the state are waiting to part ways. As of June 30 this year, 25,856 cases have been filed in family courts in the six months.

The number of people coming to court ready to separate is increasing every year. Among them, there is a sizable number of couples who have not even lived together for a week after marriage.

The highest number of cases (in six months) was filed in the Thiruvananthapuram court - 3,307. While 18,886 cases were filed in the courts in 2020, the number of new cases has reached 25,856 by the end of the first six months of this year.

The courts take the initiative to talk and ameliorate the dispute. Not even five per cent of such efforts are successful. Most of them come to the courts determined to part ways and are incorrigible. Cases are initiated when efforts to dissuade them fail. There are 35 family courts and two additional family courts in the state.

  • Vadakara -2,322
  • Attingal- 2,241
