KOCHI: A 46-year-old man in Kurumassery, Ernakulam, died by suicide, with his family alleging that the imminent threat of property seizure by Kerala Bank pushed him to take the extreme step. The deceased, Madhu Mohan of Pazhoor House, was found dead early on Monday morning.

According to relatives, Madhu Mohan had availed a housing loan of Rs 21 lakh from the Kurumassery branch of Kerala Bank. Repayment delays had reportedly prompted the bank to initiate seizure proceedings, which were scheduled to take place on the same day as his death.

Madhu Mohan's brother claimed that despite requesting an extension until July 30 to sell the property and settle the loan, the bank went ahead with the recovery process. The Chengamanad police have confirmed receiving a complaint and said that a detailed investigation is underway. However, they also noted that the deceased had been dealing with certain personal and family-related issues. Madhu Mohan is survived by his wife and two daughters.
