ADGP Mahipal Yadav dies, demise three days before retirement

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former excise commissioner Mahipal Yadav died of brain cancer. He was to retire at the end of this month and his retirement function was to be held at the police headquarters, He died while undergoing treatment in Rajasthan. Mahipal Yadav, an ADGP rank officer, was appointed excise commissioner in June after the retirement of S Anandakrishnan. He later went for treatment. Mahipal Yadav, a 1997 batch IPS officer, took charge after returning from central deputation.

After taking charge as the excise commissioner, he went on leave at the end of last month after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The government had then appointed M R Ajith Kumar as the excise commissioner. He has won the President's Medal for distinguished service in 2013. He had also served as Ernakulam IG and Beverages Corporation MD.
