THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shaji N Karun’s demise comes amidst preliminary plans to make a film out of the acclaimed novel ‘MANJUKALAM NOTTA KUTHIRA’ written by P. Padmarajan. Shaji had also planned a musical film starring Mohanlal in the lead role, to be produced by Aashirvad Cinemas.

In his final interview with 'Kerala Kaumudi' on the 1st of this month, Shaji had revealed his plans in detail. Padmarajan's wife Radhalakshmi had given the rights to make the novel into a film.

“The characters in the novel are excellent, trying to tell the complexities of personal relationships beyond some conservative moral concepts. I saw in it a life that could be made into a movie. I later learned that the characters in that novel were people whom P. Padmarajan met during the shooting of "Namukku Parkkan Munthirithoppukal”, said Shaji N Karun to KeralaKaumudi reporter.

Despite his illness, Shaji kept hope that he would complete this movie.

Manjukalam Notta Kuthira delves into the story of Durga, the daughter of the rich Khan-Urmila couple.

On Monday, Mohanlal recalled how Shaji N Karun got back to him with the proposal of a new movie, which they were eager to start.
