THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A copy of the statement given by ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar to the Vigilance has come out, in which he alleges that senior police officers, leaders of police associations, and MLA P.V. Anvar were part of a conspiracy to remove him from his post of ADGP in charge of law and order. He claimed that the reason behind this controversy was his refusal to approve Anvar’s illegal activities. According to him, false allegations were made to portray him as undesirable to the government.
Ajith Kumar alleged that Anvar, with the help of individuals and groups involved in anti-national activities, police officers hostile to him, and police association leaders, levelled false charges to get him removed. He claimed the plan was also to block his promotion to the DGP rank and prevent his appointment to important posts in the future.
The Chief Minister’s Office had earlier asked him to meet Anvar in person to clear up misunderstandings. Ajith Kumar said they met at the home of Najeeb, a friend of Anvar, in Thiruvananthapuram. He also said he and his family and friends were constantly attacked in the media as part of a move to tarnish his image and push him out of his post.
After the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita came into force, he booked gold smugglers in Malappuram under terror charges. Ajith Kumar claimed that P.V. Anvar tried to pressure the police through the Chief Minister’s Office to drop the case, but neither the CM’s Office nor senior police officials gave in. Instead, he said, some senior officers and Kerala Police Officers Association (KPOA) leaders helped raise allegations to pressure the government to remove him. According to him, the false allegations and documents given to Anvar came from within the police department, and he urged the Vigilance to investigate this as well.
He also stated that the accusations related to buying a flat, building a house, and having relatives doing business in Dubai were baseless.
Ajith faces probe again
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar may face a fresh probe in the disproportionate assets case. The Vigilance Court had found that a clean chit was given to him without recording the complainant’s statement or collecting documents and evidence, and by relying only on Ajith’s version.
On this basis, the court may order a reinvestigation. However, this will require government approval. The court had earlier observed that there were serious offences that warranted a case, rejecting the clean chit. A decision is expected after recording the statement of the complainant, Neyyattinkara Nagaraj, on the 30th. The reinvestigation will be under the supervision of Vigilance DGP Manoj Abraham.
