RAIPUR: The Malayali nuns, who have been arrested and in jail for the past eight days, have not been granted bail. The prosecution opposed granting bail to the nuns during the case hearing in the NIA court in Bilaspur. The Chhattisgarh government's lawyer argued in the court that the investigation is in its initial stages and therefore, bail should not be granted.
The promise made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Kerala MPs that the Chhattisgarh government would not oppose the nuns' bail in court has gone to waste. The verdict in the case will be delivered in court tomorrow. Advocate Amrito Das appeared in the NIA court for Sister Preeti Mary and Sister Vandana Francis, members of the Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate, who were arrested. He is the same person who will appear in the High Court as well.
Meanwhile, Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany responded that Amit Shah's words were useless. BJP leaders responded by saying that the lawyer appearing for the prosecution opposed bail only on a technicality and did not go into the merits of the case, and that it is hoped to get bail tomorrow.
