KANNUR: The father of the Booth Level Officer (BLO), who committed suicide in Ettukudukka in Payyannur, said that his son committed suicide due to the work pressure related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The deceased is Ettukudukka native Aneesh George, a peon at Kunnaru UP School. According to Aneesh’s father, the intense pressure related to SIR work was the reason his son took his own life.

He said Aneesh had been under stress for several days because of the SIR duties, and that they do not hold any individual or group responsible. Aneesh was found hanging in his bedroom around 11 a.m. today. The family said he had no other personal issues and had been busy with voter list work even the previous day.

Authorities are investigating whether election-related work pressure led to Aneesh’s death. The Chief Electoral Officer has asked the District Collector for a report. State Election Commissioner Rathan Khelkar said he has not received any information so far suggesting that workload caused Aneesh’s suicide, adding that BLOs were not given any other duties during the 31-day period.

Meanwhile, in protest against Aneesh’s death, BLOs across the state will stay away from work tomorrow. Around 35,000 officers are expected to take part. A march to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office will also be held tomorrow.
