
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Another organ donation has taken place in the state. The heart, liver, kidneys and corneas of Jijin, a native of Kilimanoor who died following a road accident, have been donated. Jijin was a clerk at the Chadayamangalam Block Panchayat Office. He had been undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College after being seriously injured in a road accident. He was declared brain dead yesterday.
Jijin's heart has been donated to a patient undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The heart has been transported from the Medical College Hospital to KIMS, and hospital authorities said surgery procedures will begin soon. Recipients have also been identified for the kidneys and corneas. One kidney and the liver will be transported to KIMS Hospital around 9 a.m. One kidney will be given to a patient currently under treatment at the Medical College Hospital.
Jijin met with the accident on February 22. He was returning home on his bike in the early morning when a car hit him near Thottakkad near Kallambalam. He suffered serious injuries in the accident. Jijin was first admitted to a private hospital and later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment. However, he passed away last night.
