MALAPPURAM: UDF won the no-confidence motion against the president in Chungathara panchayat by 11 to 9 votes to take LDF out of power. LDF member and Panchayat Vice President Nusaiba Sudhir became a turncoat as she supported UDF in the no-confidence motion.
Last day, CPM came forward with a complaint that Nusaiba Sudhir was missing. Earlier too, there were rumors of Nusaiba planning to switch sides. Nusaiba is the wife of Trinamool Congress constituency chairman Sudhir Punnapala. Nusaiba’s sudden switch in favour of UDF is touted as the result of P V Anvar’s crucial intervention.
In Chungathara panchayat, the president's post was held by LDF. At present, both the fronts have ten members each. So Nusaiba’s stance was crucial on Tuesday.
UDF-LDF members clashed during the no-confidence motion. The UDF alleged that the LDF members sprinkled cow dung-laced water on Vice President Nusaiba’s body. CPM workers also accused P V Anvar of bringing goons on a bus to aggravate tensions in the area.
