KOZHIKODE: Art director Makkada Devadas (78) passed away. The death was at 11 am on Sunday. He was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. Devadas learned the basic lessons of painting from Puthalath Raghavan, an athlete, sculptor, painter and his cousin. Cinema was his dream. Devadas left for Chennai with a letter from artist Namboodiri. The letter was for Ramesh, who was behind the scenes of the movie Swayamvaram. When Devadas reached there, he could not see Ramesh. By chance, he met Ramachandran, who did the costume design for the movie Chemmeen. It was Ramachandran who took Devadas to director P.N. Menon's house. There, Menon asked him to write the title of a movie. Menon asked Devadas to join him when he liked the title Devadas wrote. Devadas entered art direction from there.
The funeral was held at Westhill Crematorium. Wife: Thangam. Daughter: Premkala. Son-in-law: Ramesh (USA).
